As the massive clash against Real Madrid approaches, Hansi Flick and his coaching team at FC Barcelona have been putting the squad through some intense high-pressing drills.
According to reports from El Pais, in the final training session before travelling to Madrid, Flick – along with his assistant Marcus Sorg – made clear changes in roles.
For example, Fermin Lopez was tasked with pressing on Madrid’s right-back, while Ferran Torres and Marcus Rashford attacked the centre-backs. On the left side, Lamine Yamal was assigned to press Alvaro Carreras.
The rhythm of training shows that Barça are not entering this fixture merely to defend; they are going to impose themselves.
Flick’s style, over his tenure, has placed a strong emphasis on controlling possession and pressing high as soon as the ball is lost.
Analysts have noted that Barcelona under him rank among the teams with the lowest PPDA (passes allowed per defensive action) in La Liga, which is a sign that they seek to win the ball back quickly.

Despite some concerns around injuries and defensive stability, Barcelona’s training behaviours suggest they believe they have the edge.
Marcus Sorg has openly said: “It’s an honour to be on the bench. When Hansi isn’t there, you can feel his absence. He’s the most important part of the team.”
That shows how, even with Flick suspended from the touchline, the message of unity and continuity is loud.
The pressing plan is especially bold. It is designed to create disruption, force Madrid into mistakes, and allow Barça to exploit vulnerable areas.
Sorg’s words underline it: “We have to do our things well, press high, and keep our defensive line up. If we change anything, we lose our structure, and that doesn’t help.”
The context is also in Barça’s favour. Although Madrid boast their usual potency, Barcelona go into this game confident and prepared.
The high-press game is less flashy than spectacular possession, yet it is what often makes the difference against big opponents.
