Clubs agreed transfer in December but player was hesitant to approve move

Brennan Johnson is close to sealing a £35million move to Crystal Palace.

The Tottenham winger is expected to undergo medical tests over the next 24 hours, with Palace keen to name Johnson in their squad to face Newcastle on Sunday.

The clubs agreed the deal in late December, but the transfer was subject to Johnson’s approval, which has now been granted.

The Welsh international has struggled for game time under Thomas Frank, starting just six times in the Premier League.

Frank had said in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday that Johnson would be available for tonight’s game against Brentford, but with a deal edging closer to completion he was not pictured with the rest of the squad as they arrived at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Johnson held talks with Oliver Glasner on Thursday ahead of making a decision on his future.

However, the Palace boss refused to comment on the rumours in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday.

"Let's see what's happening," the Austrian said.

"It's a next crazy month in football, and I don't know.

"I have experienced so many different situations that you thought the player is already here, and then he is not here, or you thought the player would definitely stay, and then he leaves.

"The next 31 days will be everything is possible like always, and everything I say now might be wrong in two days.

"I think most of what I say now will definitely be wrong by the end of the transfer window, because I don't know.

"That is why I don't really care about it and especially why I don't want to talk about it in public."
