Tottenham Hotspur are exploring a deal to sign Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United, in what would be a rare and potentially incendiary move between the two London rivals, according to The Telegraph. Should it materialise, Kudus would become the first player to transfer directly between the clubs since Scott Parker’s 2011 switch.

Spurs are keen to bolster their attacking options and view Kudus as an ideal candidate to lead their summer rebuild under Thomas Frank. Sources suggest the club are quietly confident of striking a deal for less than his £85 million release clause, which reportedly expires within the first 10 days of July.

The 24-year-old joined West Ham from Ajax for nearly £40 million and enjoyed an impressive first campaign, netting 14 goals across all competitions. Although his second season was less prolific with five goals, his versatility across the forward line remains a key attraction.
With Graham Potter looking to reshape his squad, West Ham are understood to be open to selling Kudus if it helps fund their own summer recruitment. The player himself is believed to be open to the move, despite the likely backlash from fans due to the rivalry between the two clubs.

While Tottenham have explored other options, including Bryan Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo and Eberechi Eze, Kudus is considered the frontrunner. His experience in both the Premier League and Champions League provides valuable pedigree for a Spurs side seeking to return to European contention.
Tottenham’s approach this summer may depend in part on player sales and the availability of new investment. Enic’s continued role in funding transfers is under scrutiny, though external investment has not been ruled out.
The potential departure of Cristian Romero remains a subplot. The defender’s recent criticism of the club’s direction and reported links to Atletico Madrid have fuelled speculation. However, Spurs have denied claims a fee has been agreed and expect Romero to report back for pre-season in mid-July.

Kudus, should a deal be concluded, would offer tactical flexibility and a statement of intent from a club looking to reassert itself in both domestic and European competitions.
It is not just about breaking a supposed “embargo” with West Ham, but doing so for a player of Kudus’ calibre adds real edge. This is a signing that makes a statement.
Kudus has that rare mix of flair and grit. He plays with intensity, presses with intelligence, and most importantly, he delivers goals. His standout season in Europe with Ajax is still fresh in the memory, and Spurs fans will rightly believe they are getting a player whose ceiling has not yet been reached.
Bringing in a player from West Ham will certainly ruffle feathers, but that’s part of the appeal. It speaks to a more assertive Spurs, one willing to court controversy if it means strengthening the squad. After years of stagnation and transition, there is a sense that the club is ready to act boldly again.
Frank’s system needs dynamic, unpredictable attackers, and Kudus fits that mould perfectly. He is a player who can take the ball on the half-turn, drive past defenders and thread the final pass. In a team with ambitions to break back into the top four, those qualities could be decisive.
