Tottenham are ready to rival Manchester United in the race for Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo.

United are working to sign Mbeumo and have already seen one bid rejected this summer.

Talks have continued, but Tottenham have now emerged as contenders to sign Mbeumo this summer.

Spurs have just appointed Mbeumo’s former boss Thomas Frank as their new manager after paying Brentford £10m to hire him as Ange Postecoglou’s replacement.

Frank would like to bring Mbeumo with him to Tottenham and Spurs have expressed an interest to Brentford in doing a deal.

The 25-year-old has previously stated a desire to join United and it remains to be seen if Spurs’ interest can change that.

Tottenham would be able to offer Mbeumo Champions League football next season and the chance to work under Frank again.

The Cameroon international flourished under Frank’s guidance at Brentford and scored 20 goals in the Premier League this term.

United have already bolstered their attack by signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves for over £60m, but head coach Ruben Amorim wants further additions.

It may take a similar fee to land Mbeumo, while United must also agree personal terms with the winger amid some reports claiming he wants £250,000 a week.

Frank confirmed last month, when he was still at Brentford, that the club could sell Mbeumo this summer, but warned that he would not come cheap.

“I’m the head coach, I want my best players to stay forever,” Frank told Sky Sports News.

“I know that Bryan is very happy being here at Brentford, he’s thriving, doing well and playing fantastic. What happens in the future? I don’t know.

“I’ve said many times: we are a selling club. But at the same time we have to reinforce that there are 10 clubs in the world who aren’t selling clubs.

“So, of course, if the right price - and that’s going to be expensive - is coming, then I’m sure the club will be open for it.

“But I’m very happy he’s here, and I’m convinced that Bryan will still be happy playing football here.”
