Sunderland approach Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby with contract talks under way for Bertrand Traoré and new accounts confirming £47.3m in transfer commitments.
According to Sunderland Echo, Régis Le Bris said talks have opened with the winger, who joined from Ajax on a one-year deal with an option. A knee issue at AFCON, then a recurrence at Elland Road this month, is set to sideline him for about another month.
Le Bris added it is probably too early to decide, that Traoré and sporting director Florent Ghisolfi have spoken, and that the club will wait.
The 2024-25 accounts, covering the promotion season, show an operating loss of £1.1m and turnover of £40.3m. Since period end, £47,346,348 has been committed in transfer fees.
Striker Wilson Isidor confirmed he will represent Haiti, saying he had reflected before accepting the call-up and is proud to join the national team.
In Portugal, Sunderland loanee Luís Hemir was an unused substitute and did not warm up in Moreirense’s defeat to FC Porto. According to A Bola, that followed behaviour before the match the club deemed inappropriate.
Head coach Vasco Botelho said he has long known and rates Hemir but stressed team standards come first and that difficult decisions can aid development.
Authorities said away fans arriving at Newcastle Central Station on Sunday will be escorted by police to St James’ Park. The main escort leaves at 10.15am, with early arrival advised for the 12pm kick-off and busy transport expected.
