Last night brought some rather unexpected transfer news from Fabrizio Romano, and then a rather unexpected backlash from another Blues insider.

Romano and Jacobs face off over Jorgensen future

Filip Jorgensen considers a January exit to get more game time says Fabrizio Romano.

Top transfer guru Romano put out a Tweet which claimed that Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen was considering a January exit (presumably on loan) to get some game time ahead of the World Cup.

“Jorgensen is open to a new chapter ahead of the World Cup playoffs with Denmark,” Romano wrote.

We would never doubt Romano’s sources – they tend to come right from the player or their agent. But Ben Jacobs is well connected at Chelsea, and he came back with a rebuttal before too long.

“Understand Chelsea have no plans to sanction a Filip Jorgensen loan in January,” he wrote.

“Danish keeper open to options in order to get more game time, but a temporary exit not currently on the cards as far as Chelsea are concerned.”

Neither is being too committal in their output, and both stress that Chelsea will decide.

We can see why Jorgensen would want to leave, but January feels premature. He will go on loan in the summer and then be sold in the summer of 2027, we’d imagine, with Mike Penders potentially coming in to compete with Robert Sanchez next year, or perhaps a bridge option brought in.

In other news…

The Blues return to action on Saturday with a game against Burnley, and while it’s not the biggest on the calendar, there’s a reason Enzo Maresca’s team selection will matter a lot.

Geovany Quenda is going to arrive at Chelsea next summer and there’s already speculation about his future. Will he end up on loan or come straight into Enzo Maresca’s first team?
