UEFA has barred Galatasaray from selling away tickets for the Anfield second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie, giving Liverpool a clear advantage. The ruling was confirmed on Wednesday and applies to the return on 18 March.
The first leg is at RAMS Park in Istanbul on 10 March. According to The Athletic, UEFA’s Appeals Body acted after investigating crowd disturbances, fireworks and objects thrown during Galatasaray’s play-off win over Juventus in Turin.
Galatasaray have also been fined €40,000 and, while they intend to appeal, the ban means there will be no travelling support at Anfield.
Arne Slot urged focus on the first leg, noting Liverpool lost 1-0 in Istanbul in the league phase. He said they must perform far better and handle the atmosphere in Türkiye to make any home advantage tell.
Europe now carries extra weight for Liverpool after a 2-1 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday left them fifth in the Premier League, three points off the top four. The winners could face Paris Saint-Germain or Chelsea in the quarter-finals.
