Bodø/Glimt’s historic qualification under the microscope

Bodø/Glimt pulled off a sensational upset by knocking out Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League play-offs Champions League. After already winning the first leg (3-1), the Norwegian side did it again, claiming a 2-1 victory on Italian soil.
The club from the city of Bodø pulled off this colossal feat with a budget of around 30 million euros, nearly 16 times less than last season’s Champions League finalist.
What’s more, Bodø/Glimt has become the first Norwegian team to advance in a two-legged knockout tie in the Champions League since Lillestrom did it against Linfield back in 1987-88.
It’s also the first team outside Europe’s Top 5 leagues to win four consecutive Champions League matches against clubs from the big five since Ajax Amsterdam in the 1971-72 season, according to the specialist X account “Stat du foot.”
Finally, Bodø/Glimt is the first team to defeat Inter Milan home and away in a Champions League knockout tie since Schalke 04 did it in the 2010-11 quarter-finals.
Next up, the Norwegian side faces the daunting task of toppling either Manchester City or Sporting CP in the Round of 16.
