Juventus acquired Joao Mario to be their new starter on the right wing, but he hasn’t convinced two different coaches. He has completely fallen out of favor after receiving more than a few chances at the beginning of the season.

According to TuttoSport, his January exit is becoming a real possibility. His entourage is planning to pay a visit to the Bianconeri HQ. The Portuguese defender could have some suitors abroad. Crystal Palace have lodged an opening inquiry.

Juventus actually netted a small profit while signing Joao Mario. He came in with €11,4M valuation, while the player they swapped him for, Alberto Costa, was valued at €15M in the deal with Porto. They’d be looking for a comparable figure to part ways.

The former youngster has been thriving back in his home country. He has been a full-time starter and has recorded 6 assists in 20 matches.

As for the potential replacements, the Old Lady is eyeing the usual suspects from Serie A, Marco Palestra and Brooke Norton-Cuffy. They have done a good amount of homework on Rafik Belghali. He has made a strong impact following a €2M move from Mechelen to Verona, scoring twice in 15 appearances. The Scaligeri are hearing up for another ‘plusvalenza.’

Our Take on Juventus and Joao Mario

The trade didn’t make a lot of sense in the moment and couldn’t have gone any worse. While Weston McKennie and Filip Kostic have been fine, they’d be a lot better with another dynamic and well-rounded wing player. At least they didn’t really spend on him, making it easy to cut bait and look for a more intriguing player.
