Nottingham Forest Issue Hands-Off Warning Over Elliot Anderson

Anderson’s Rise at Forest

Nottingham Forest have moved swiftly to cool speculation around Elliot Anderson’s future after a series of impressive performances since his arrival from Newcastle United. As reported by TBR Football, Forest “have little intention of letting him go anytime soon” despite mounting interest across the Premier League.

Signed for over £30m during Newcastle’s PSR-driven sales in 2024, the 22-year-old midfielder has already justified the investment. Anderson is now a full England international, a key part of recent World Cup qualifiers, and strongly tipped to feature at the 2026 tournament. His performances at the City Ground have cemented him as one of the brightest young talents in the English game.

Rival Clubs Monitor Anderson

Interest from rivals is inevitable when a player excels. TBR Football explain, “However, such has been his form that he is naturally being linked with rival clubs. Sources have informed TBR Football that he is on Manchester United’s radar, whilst we understand that Liverpool and Tottenham have also been keeping tabs on his progress.”

His former club Newcastle would “love” to bring him back to Tyneside, although circumstances surrounding his initial sale made such an outcome unlikely in the short term. The Magpies reluctantly parted with him under PSR pressure, with Eddie Howe never keen to sanction the departure.

Forest’s position is clear. TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey reported that boss Ange Postecoglou views Anderson as fundamental to his plans, noting, “Anderson has been top class for Forest, and they are aware of the interest is emerging. But I am told that Forest have no intention of entertaining any interest in him, and with Ange Postecoglou arriving – they want him to be a cornerstone to his team going forward.”

Forest’s Stability and Transfer Resolve

This firm stance comes after a turbulent spell of player trading forced by financial regulations. Anthony Elanga’s move to Newcastle earlier this summer again highlighted Forest’s vulnerability under PSR scrutiny. However, Evangelos Marinakis now appears better positioned to retain core assets, particularly those vital to Postecoglou’s project.

Anderson’s consistency for both club and country only heightens his value. Forest supporters have already seen him blossom into a player capable of dictating games at Premier League level. It is this influence that makes the prospect of losing him so concerning, especially with clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United circling.

Liverpool’s Midfield Interest

The report also notes Liverpool’s wider midfield strategy. Bailey revealed that “Liverpool plan to sign a defensive midfielder in the upcoming transfer windows.” While Brighton’s Carlos Baleba is a candidate, the Premier League champions could view Anderson as a versatile option.

With Ryan Gravenberch excelling in a deep-lying role but lacking sufficient back-up, the addition of Anderson would provide energy, vision and technical quality. Such interest, however, would be a significant blow for Forest, given the lure of trophies and Champions League football that Liverpool can offer. For now, Postecoglou and Forest remain determined to keep their star midfielder central to their future.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For Nottingham Forest fans, Elliot Anderson represents more than just a marquee signing. He is the heartbeat of a team that is trying to build stability in the Premier League while pushing for greater ambition under Ange Postecoglou. The thought of losing him so soon after watching Anthony Elanga leave is difficult to stomach.

Forest have made clear that Anderson is not for sale, and supporters will be reassured by the strong stance taken by Evangelos Marinakis. Yet there is an underlying fear. When Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham circle, players can be tempted by the scale of the opportunity. The concern is whether Forest can match those ambitions, or whether eventually Anderson’s head could be turned.

From a fan’s perspective, this is the moment for the club to back Postecoglou’s vision. Keeping Anderson would send a powerful message that Forest are no longer a selling club under pressure but an institution ready to challenge, compete and build. If Forest can match his ambition, then the supporters will believe the project has real legs.
