Manchester United are hoping to recuperate around £40 million of pure profit by sanctioning the sale of Marcus Rashford this summer.
They’ll have to find a suitor willing to pay up first, though.
The forward concluded his loan spell with Aston Villa last month without either party opting to make the deal permanent, although Rashford seen his stocks rise since his revived run of form in the four months he spent with the Midlands outfit.

Despite his top-drawer showings, Ruben Amorim still has no place for Rashford in his plans following his first-team exile towards the end of last year.
December 12 marked the 27-year-old’s last outing for United, after which he was omitted from the matchday squad each week until his January exit. In total, Rashford played only six times under Amorim and returned three goals.
In comparison, he featured in 17 games for Villa, scoring four goals and assisting a further six. He particularly impressed during the club’s UCL quarter-final second-leg clash with Paris Saint-Germain, where the hosts were able to clinch a 3-2 victory on the night against the eventual winners of the competition.
It clearly caught the eye of his admirers, too, as Barcelona – said to be Rashford’s dream destination – have reignited their pursuit after failing to get a deal over the line in the winter.
The newly-crowned La Liga champions sent Sporting Director Deco to hold talks with the player’s agent last week, although there remains considerable work to be done over how the transfer could work; Barcelona’s precarious financial situation has them favouring a loan with an option/obligation to buy at the end of 2025/2026, while United, of course, are adamant about receiving an upfront fee to reinvest on his replacement.
To make negotiations easier, Rashford – hailed as ‘unstoppable’ by ex-manager Erik ten Hag – has reportedly made it clear he’d be ‘willing to take a significant salary cut’ and wait until the end of the window to make the move, according to Luis Rojo. He currently earns around £325,000 per week with United, having signed a five-year extension in July 2023.
