In a recent report, The Athletic (subscription required) offered an update on Liverpool and their pursuit of Newcastle United star Alexander Isak. It has been revealed that the Reds have failed with their opening bid for the Swedish forward, who is keen on a move to Anfield this summer.
Isak enjoyed an excellent run of form at the Tyneside club after he put in a string of impressive displays as the focal point of their attack. The Swedish striker banged in 27 goals and earned six assists in 42 matches for Newcastle last season across multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old led the line well for the Magpies as he averaged 3.1 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He kept 43.2% of his shots on target. Isak was even accurate when distributing possession in the final third, based on his pass success rate of 75.3% in the English top tier (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the Tyneside club will run out in the summer of 2028. Thus, Liverpool have no choice but to meet Newcastle’s demands for their prized asset.

Isak excels at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in and around the opponent’s penalty area and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The Sweden international has proven his worth as a prolific goal-scorer in the Premier League. Hence, it is no surprise that the Reds are showing interest in recruiting Isak in this summer transfer window.
We can expect Isak to add plenty of firepower to Liverpool boss Arne Slot’s attack. He is more than capable of earning a regular first-team place at the Merseyside club next season.
At 25, Isak has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a great choice for the Reds to consider this off-season. He might even help Liverpool challenge for some major honours over the next few years. Hence, Slot should focus on trying everything in his power to get him on board ahead of the new campaign.
