Valencia said in a statement that Alberto Marí underwent successful surgery in Valencia on Friday 20 March for a left biceps femoris injury sustained with CD Mirandés, and will remain in hospital for monitoring.

The setback compounds an adverse end to the season for the loanee, individually and collectively, and leaves the forward facing a recovery period at a pivotal moment in the campaign.

His loan at Mirandés has not unfolded as hoped. Marí has struggled for continuity and influence, returning only one goal in LaLiga Hypermotion. Earlier fitness issues have checked his progress, and this hamstring problem is the heaviest blow so far.

Mirandés have lacked stability throughout the year, which has weighed on their attacking output. Limited chance creation and the strain of poor results have made it hard for players like Marí to show their best. After surgery, the focus now is on rehabilitation and being ready for next season.

The Burgos club are bottom after 30 rounds, 10 points adrift of safety, having gone close to promotion last season. Marí’s absence further trims the options of a side already short of goals. Valencia will track his recovery with an eye on a brighter return.
