The club said in a statement that Valencia have dismissed Miguel Ángel Angulo as Valencia Mestalla head coach after five seasons, thanked him for his work with the academy, and that from Wednesday Óscar Sánchez, previously VCF Juvenil A coach, will lead the team for the run-in. Angulo had been under contract until 30 June 2027.
On Sunday Mestalla drew 1-1 with Atlètic Lleida on matchday 28 of Group III in Segunda Federación, Mario Domínguez equalising with a stoppage-time penalty.
The team sit 13th. The position is precarious, with the bottom five in each group, 14th to 18th, relegated.
In addition, the four worst 13th-placed sides will play a neutral play-off that will send two more teams down to Tercera RFEF. Mestalla have not won since 31 January against Alcoyano, collecting five of 21 points since then with five draws and two defeats.
A club great, Angulo joined from Sporting B in 1995-96, became a mainstay under Héctor Cúper and Rafa Benítez, and is Valencia's most decorated player. He won two league titles, two Copas del Rey and the UEFA Cup, reached two consecutive Champions League finals, and scored 67 goals in 434 official games. He later moved into coaching in 2012-13, rising through the academy to take Mestalla.
