Mayssam Benama has joined Valencia, the France Under-20 captain arriving to bolster Miguel Ángel Angulo’s B team and signing until 2028.
According to AS, his deal includes clauses to extend the initial agreement if he reaches the first team. He was born in Tours in 2005 to Algerian parents.
Valencia first tracked him at the Under-20 World Cup in Chile, where he captained France to the semi-finals.
The midfielder came through Monaco’s academy, then moved to Annecy in France’s second tier last summer. Valencia have reached an agreement with Annecy, with whom he had a contract until 2028.
The club’s academy acted decisively to close the move, and the player’s wish to join the Mestalla club was also important.
Benama is the third January addition for the B team, alongside Kenyan centre-back Amos Wanjala, 19, from Torrellano, and Portuguese centre-back Pedro Gomes, 20, from Kapaz of Azerbaijan.
He has represented France across the youth levels. The academy also added Cyprus captain Andreas Pieri, born in 2010, to reinforce Cadete A. The 16-year-old is already captain of his country’s Under-17s.
