Vasco’s Brasileiro trip to Vila Belmiro on Thursday 26 carries stakes beyond three points, with the result potentially shaping their succession plan for Fernando Diniz. ge reports that the outcome could prompt a Santos dismissal.

Juan Pablo Vojvoda is under intense pressure after Santos’s early Paulista exit to Novorizontino. Pressure on president Marcelo Teixeira has risen, and the Vasco match is seen as the limit for the Argentine. A 12-day gap afterwards is viewed as ideal for a change.

If he is removed, his name would be discussed by the Vasco board led by Pedrinho and Admar Lopes. There has been no official approach, though his profile appeals despite recent negative results.

Any move would be complex. He rejected Vasco in 2023 to stay at Fortaleza and has, on other occasions, indicated he does not wish to live in Rio de Janeiro. His Santos record stands at 43.3 percent, with only nine wins in 30 matches.

Vojvoda began in Argentina with Newell’s Old Boys, Defensa y Justicia, Talleres and Huracán. He peaked in Brazil with three successful seasons at Fortaleza, lifting state and regional titles, guiding Libertadores runs and a Sudamericana runners-up finish.

He took charge of Santos in August 2025. Despite signings including Neymar, Adonis Frías and Zé Rafael, he has not replicated his Fortaleza success. With a style built on fast transitions and intensity, he is now fighting to avoid a major setback against Vasco.
