Vasco not pursuing Kevin Castaño, focus remains on Santiago Sosa | OneFootball

According to PaponaColina, Vasco are not pursuing River Plate midfielder Kevin Castaño in this window, despite talk of him as a Plan B.

The club admire the Colombia international’s attributes, but internal analysis deems him short of their Plan A. Focus remains on closing a deal for Santiago Sosa from Racing in Argentina.

While parallel conversations are ongoing with other overseas targets, Castaño is not among them.

Vasco’s hierarchy are working at pace to deliver five signings promised to Pedro Emanuel’s staff. The Sosa move is valued at around US$ 8 million, with two weeks to pay the initial instalment, so executive director Admar Lopes has alternatives lined up should talks with the Avellaneda hierarchy turn.

Backed by R$ 100 million per year authorised by investor Marcos Lamacchia, the club are scouring the South American market. Central midfield options under discussion include Nelson Deossa of Real Betis and Franco Ibarra of Rosario Central. Loans with an option to buy remain the preferred structure to navigate bureaucracy between Vasco da Gama and 777 Partners.

Castaño, 25, has played for Águilas Doradas, Cruz Azul and Russia’s Krasnodar. At the 2026 World Cup he featured off the bench for Colombia against Uzbekistan and Portugal, registering no goals but completing 100% of his passes in his minutes on the pitch.
