Vasco drew 0-0 with Nova Iguaçu at São Januário, with Léo Jardim and substitute Andrés Gómez the standouts, while Matheus França received the lowest marks after a difficult display.

According to Globo.com, Fernando Diniz kept his word by starting a reserve-heavy XI. The visitors stifled a flat first half from Vasco, when França registered their only effort on target.

Diniz made four changes at the interval, JP injected energy into midfield, sometimes overly eager, and Garré was withdrawn after a quiet outing. Lucas Freitas also departed, while Hugo Moura later dropped into defence and finished with the team’s highest pass count.

Gómez, introduced at half-time, was Vasco’s main threat and forced two strong stops from the Nova Iguaçu goalkeeper. David improved after the break and nearly headed in from a Maxime Dominguez cross within two minutes of the restart. Jardim also denied Di Maria again after the interval.

Puma Rodríguez, back in his natural role, supported attacks and tried his luck twice, while debutant Saldivia mixed errors with some assured long passes without compromising the back line. Victor Luis improved after a poor first half, departing on 34 minutes of the second period, and centre-forward GB ended without a shot. Debutant Johan Rojas showed little in 23 minutes, and João Vitor Fonseca came on late.
