Vasco are working to clear the remaining paperwork and complete the permanent signing of Santiago Sosa from Racing on Wednesday, aiming to register him for the Copa Sudamericana and have him available against Bahia in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
According to PaponaColina, the club plan to book flights for the Argentine midfielder within hours so he can undergo medical tests and sign his contract.
Talks had stalled over late contractual changes requested by Racing's board. The Argentine side want clauses imposing strict penalties for delayed instalment payments, not bank guarantees, but legal safeguards before signing.
Their firm stance follows recent disputes with Brazilian clubs, having taken a case to FIFA in late 2025 over Carbonero’s move to Internacional and notifying Grêmio in March 2026 regarding Nardoni. Conscious of Vasco’s finances, Racing are seeking to safeguard the agreement.
Discussions continue to finalise the wording. Sosa has said goodbye to Racing’s supporters and has been left out of recent squads after being told he would be sold. Both camps view a positive resolution as the only path to closing the deal.
Pedro Emanuel’s staff are monitoring developments in the hope of integrating him quickly. Sosa has maintained his training schedule in Argentina to arrive match ready. Inside the club he is considered a key addition to strengthen midfield alongside captain Thiago Mendes.
Vasco’s hierarchy aim to complete the formalities within hours to enable his travel and an official unveiling before current registration deadlines.
