Chelsea are into the Club World Cup Quarter Finals after a crazy game in Charlotte against Benfica.
The Blues were winning 1-0 with time running out and looking comfortable when a 90 minute storm delay changed everything.
When the game restarted, the Blues conceded an equalising penalty, and the game changed totally. But a red card for Benfica turned the momentum back the other way once we were into extra time, and from there everything really went mad.
In the end, following some end to end action where both teams could have scored, it was Christopher Nkunku who made the difference against ten man Benfica.
The Frenchman was on hard to force home his own rebound after Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo set him up on the break. It’s a nice moment for him – he wasn’t expected to even be on this tour, yet here he is scoring a vital goal and celebrating wildly with manager Enzo Maresca on the touchline.
You can see the goal in the clip embedded here:

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall clips a goal in over the Benfica goalkeeper.
With the game broken open, the floodgates were opened and Pedro Neto took advantage, steaming forward into empty space to score his third of the tournament. He’s really having a good time out there, although we worry about the number of minutes he’s racking up.

The pain for the Portuguese giants didn’t end there. This time it was Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who was slipped though on the counter, and he also produced a deft finish to make it 4-1 and end the game. He’s another player we didn’t expect to see the pitch much, making the most of his chances.
On to the quarter finals we go…
