Vignola scores hat-trick as Everton thrash Liverpool

New signing Ornella Vignola made a dream start to life at Everton, scoring a debut hat-trick as the Blues ran out 4-1 winners over rivals Liverpool at Anfield.

The Reds struck first through Cornelia Kapocs on 12 minutes and looked sharp under new boss Gareth Taylor in his first game in charge.

The hosts dominated much of the opening half, but Vignola pulled Everton level before Katja Snoeijs’ header just before the break turned the game around.

After the restart, the Toffees took control. Vignola struck twice in quick succession to complete her treble and effectively kill off the contest. Brian Sorensen’s substitutions, including record signing Ruby Mace, added further stability as the visitors tightened their grip.

For Liverpool, the result was a setback after such a bright start, while Everton’s summer recruits look like they could make a serious impact this season.
