Gerard headlined Villarreal’s player ratings. Cardona and Alfon also impressed in attack.
As reported by as.com, Cardona struck a fine goal and worked tirelessly against Iñaki, while Alfon marked his first start with a goal and a half assist.
Luiz Júnior was assured on his line, though uncertain on a few claims. Mouriño shut down Nico and stayed reliable, with Renato Veiga similarly dominant in the air. Pau Navarro’s early booking defined his outing before he was replaced.
Pape Gueye was everywhere, the midfield reference, though he should sometimes take fewer risks. Comesaña worked hard but lacked the killer pass. Buchanan was constantly involved, yet the final ball or shot would not come.
Leading the line, Gerard was the best on the pitch, turning difficult balls into something useful. Tani delivered a quality assist and fought for everything.
From the bench, Pepe had a goal ruled out. Moleiro threatened with his runs. Marín came on sharp and focused, and Parejo recorded his 200th league appearance in yellow.
