Vitão has been registered and is eligible to debut for Flamengo after his name appeared on Wednesday in the Bira of Ferj and the CBF’s BID, making him available to Filipe Luís for the Carioca and national competitions, according to Globo.com.

There is no timetable for his first appearance. The former Inter defender began pre-season with his new team-mates on Monday. Flamengo, the last to report back in 2026 after playing the Intercontinental Cup in December, opened their Carioca campaign with an under-20 side.

Presented last week, Vitão recognised the depth at centre-back and that he will need patience. His chance could come sooner than expected, with Danilo managing a knee issue and Léo Ortiz carefully returning from an ankle problem.

Danilo will work through a separate pre-season and the current view is that he will only be available to Filipe Luís against Corinthians in the Supercopa in February. Ortiz has no pain but remains under observation and, depending on pitch conditions, could be rested.

Vitão arrived in strong physical condition and has drawn praise from Flamengo’s head of medical, Dr Fernando Sassaki, who outlined the club’s imaging protocol and positive references from Inter’s doctor, describing the defender as proactive and dedicated.

Flamengo face Bangu on Wednesday at Moça Bonita, then Volta Redonda on Saturday at Raulino de Oliveira. The under-20s will represent the club in both fixtures, with some senior players expected to be introduced from the clássico with Vasco on 21.
