Wayne Bridge believes Sunderland would feel the loss heavily if Granit Xhaka were to depart after his standout first season on Wearside. The former full-back made 10 appearances for the club.

As reported by Sunderland Echo, the Swiss midfielder arrived from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, took the armband and has underpinned the Black Cats’ Premier League survival push with authoritative displays.

“People were laughing at me, to be honest. Even the closest part of my friends said to me, ‘Why are you going back?’ They said, ‘Yeah, okay, you can go back to Premier League, but why are you going back to Sunderland?’” he told BBC Sport.

He said he embraced a new challenge and felt an immediate connection with the city and club, adding, “Because the people are very humble.”

Offering his view on potential interest, Bridge said, “He’s obviously one of their main players and he’s made a massive impact.” Speaking to 10bet, he added, “If he leaves, it would be a massive miss for them. Sunderland have been brilliant this season, and Xhaka has been instrumental.”
