An Albion supporters’ group has asked the EFL for answers after the club were charged over financial matters. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the Independent Supporters’ Trust has written to the governing body seeking clarity and will update fans in due course.

The charge follows a club financial reporting unit compliance review and covers the three-year cycle to 2024/25. Albion’s lawyers will attend a hearing to contest it, and the club insist they have complied with profit and sustainability rules.

The case is understood to involve operational loans taken late in Guochuan Lai’s tenure. Two MSD Holdings loans totalling £28 million were secured, which new owner Shilen Patel has pledged to repay by December. Debate around PSR is understood to centre on £5m interest Albion believed was Bilkul’s responsibility, not the club’s.

If a minor breach above the permitted £41.5m losses is proven, a points deduction could follow, threatening their Championship status.

A hearing must be held within 28 days of the CFRU report and is expected by the end of April. Any sanction would have to be applied this season, and the EFL treats such cases as private and confidential. The Trust is independent of the club and separate from the Albion Assembly and Fan Advisory Board.
