James Morrison says he has been checking in on Tammer Bany, who has felt embarrassed during a long lay-off, as West Brom look to support the attacker.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 22-year-old has been out since late December after thigh surgery, ending a difficult first year after a £3.3 million move from Randers. He has made five substitute appearances in 13 months, with only a brief cameo this season. After declaring for Jordan, he has had more minutes for the national team than for Albion.

Bany has returned to training. Morrison said he has held a couple of conversations with the midfielder and considers his progress day to day.

He will not feature at Blackburn on Monday and it is unclear whether he will make the squad for Millwall next Friday. His only club minutes this term came in stoppage time of the 3-1 defeat at QPR on December 6.

He trained through pre-season and featured in friendlies before pulling up against Dynamo Kyiv during a camp in Austria. His move has been cited as a recruitment failure under former sporting director and club president Andrew Nestor, and he remains the second most expensive signing under Bilkul after striker Aune Heggebo. Nestor left in January.

Bany could yet contribute this season. The No.26 could also be Albion’s sole representative at the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with Jordan likely to call if he is fit. Morrison said keeping in touch matters so the youngster feels supported.
