Hammers to be without summer signing until after March international break

West Ham do not expect Crysencio Summerville to play again until April, manager Graham Potter has confirmed.

Potter had to substitute the 23-year-old winger at half-time in the 2-1 FA Cup third-round defeat after he pulled up with pain in his hamstring.

Summerville, a £25million signing from Leeds last summer, has not played since and Potter does not expect him back until after the March international break.

West Ham’s next match after that sees them visit Wolves on April 1.

The Hammers will welcome back Lucas Paqueta and Edson Alvarez against Brentford on Saturday after the pair missed the 2-1 defeat at Chelsea through minor injuries.

Evan Ferguson is in line to make his West Ham debut this weekend following his six-month loan move from Brighton.

“[Crysencio] Summerville had a setback with his hamstring, so we're probably looking at after the international break for him,” Potter revealed on Thursday.

“The setback was at the backend of his rehab, he just felt something, which is disappointing. Apart from that I think we're OK.

“We've had some positive news in that Paqueta has trained and should be available. Álvarez has trained and should be available.”

Defender Jean-Clair Todibo has not played in any of Potter’s first five games due to injury, but he could feature against the Bees.

“Todibo is making good progress,” Potter revealed. “He’s got a chance of making the squad. Probably a little bit too soon for the starting XI, but certainly the squad. So that’s good. [Niclas] Fullkrug and [Michail] Antonio are still away, of course.”

“We've got a bit of freshness now going into the last 14 games, which we're really excited about. We're looking forward to Brentford, after a good couple of weeks [off].”

Asked whether he will hand Ferguson his West Ham debut, Potter replied: “He's trained well. He hasn't played loads of football recently, so we have to be careful with that.

“He's shown his quality, and is ready to help the team, and we feel he'll just get better and better.”
