West Ham are considering re-signing Łukasz Fabianski, only months after his departure from the club. The 40-year-old goalkeeper left the London Stadium at the end of last season following seven years of service, but he is now in talks over a surprise return.
The situation arises from a shortage in Graham Potter’s squad. Wes Foderingham’s recent move to Cypriot side Aris Limassol has left the Hammers with only two senior goalkeepers: Alphonse Areola and summer signing Mads Hermansen. With West Ham seeking stability between the posts, Fabianski has emerged as a viable option.
Fabianski joined West Ham from Swansea in 2018 and went on to make 216 appearances across all competitions. His influence was particularly evident during the club’s UEFA Conference League triumph in 2023, adding European silverware to his record.

Last season, he featured 14 times in the Premier League as the Hammers finished 14th, underlining his role even in the latter stages of his time at the club. Across his Premier League career with Arsenal, Swansea, and West Ham, Fabianski has collected 97 clean sheets in 376 appearances – a statistic that highlights his consistency and longevity at the top level.
Mads Hermansen, brought in from Leicester City, has endured a difficult start at West Ham, conceding eight goals in his first two league matches. While the club initially explored other options, including a proposed loan deal for Manchester United’s Andre Onana, those talks were ended by chairman David Sullivan following Onana’s high-profile errors in cup competition.
West Ham also revived their interest in Botafogo’s John Victor, but the Brazilian instead chose to join Nottingham Forest before the transfer deadline. That sequence of events has left Potter looking towards a trusted, familiar figure to strengthen his options – with Fabianski fitting the bill.
The potential return of Fabianski represents more than just a stop-gap solution. His experience, knowledge of the club, and proven leadership could help steady West Ham at a time when the squad is adjusting under Potter’s management. At 40, his role may not be long-term, but his presence could provide immediate reassurance as Hermansen adapts to the demands of the Premier League.
West Ham’s decision now rests on balancing the need for experience with the long-term development of their younger keepers. Fabianski’s availability and understanding of the London Stadium environment make him a serious contender as discussions continue.
