The last few years have not been very special for West Ham United. There was a time when the Hammers created headlines in the Europa League. However, since then, there has been no stability at the club. Many experienced players are well past their primes, and the young players have not been able to reach that level. There is a need for a new start, but every time, the hopes are dashed. The 2024/25 season was also similarly dull as the Hammers finished bottom half of the table, and under Graham Potter, the club want to make amends next season.
Against this background, West Ham United want to do something concrete in the ongoing transfer window this time. There is turmoil in the club’s midfield, as Carlos Soler has returned to PSG after a disappointing performance. Lucas Paqueta’s future hangs in the balance. Meanwhile, Edson Alvarez, Guido Rodriguez, Tomas Soucek and James Ward-Prowse cannot be trusted either. In such a situation, the Hammers are looking for a player who can infuse new energy in the midfield.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, West Ham United have taken a look at Aston Villa‘s 24-year-old English midfielder Jacob Ramsey. The club are impressed by his versatility and attributes. Ramsey can play as a left, right and centre midfielder. He creates chances, dictates the tempo of the game and finds space in the backline.
The Englishman has the confidence that is missing from West Ham’s midfield at the moment. However, according to the report, he is not ready to leave Aston Villa at this moment. Manager Unai Emery also considers him an important part of his project. Tottenham Hotspur also wanted him, but Ramsey is not in the mood to go anywhere at the moment.
If we talk about the probable impact, Ramsey’s arrival at West Ham would have been like a fresh breath for the team. His arrival could have filled the void of Lucas Paqueta to a great extent. The 24-year-old is more mobile than Soucek and plays more directly than Ward-Prowse, but Ramsey, as stated earlier, is inclined to stay at Aston Villa.
The question now is, where will West Ham go? The options in the midfield are limited in the market. Players who have Ramsey’s quality are either very expensive or are already on the radar of top clubs. Maybe West Ham will now have to bet on a youngster, or sell Paqueta and get two midfielders.
