Weverton, the Grêmio goalkeeper, said he almost blacked out when his 2026 World Cup call-up was confirmed, later sharing home camera footage of the wild celebrations.

According to Globo.com, he told a Tuesday press conference he was unsure what happened and thinks he briefly fainted. He added he was grateful his brother did not land on his head, joking the joy could easily have turned to tragedy.

He said the scenes were typical of his family, with his sister sprinting about, and that they live the moment intensely. He stressed he remains the same person, though professionally the call-up brings significant value to him and to Grêmio.

The 2026 tournament will be his second World Cup. He was part of the 2022 squad and played 10 minutes in the 4-1 round-of-16 win over South Korea. He also featured at the 2021 Copa América and was a starter in the 2016 Olympic gold-winning campaign.

Before training on Tuesday at CT Luiz Carvalho, team-mates and staff gave him a celebratory reception. He received a bespoke sticker for the World Cup album, then ran a light-hearted gauntlet on the pitch at the start of the session.
