Leicester City lost 4-1 at the King Power Stadium to Arsenal in the Women’s Super League on Sunday – but head coach Rick Passmoor says there were still things he was pleased with from his team.
The Foxes were 3-0 down at half-time thanks to goals from Alessia Russio, a Sari Kees own goal and then Stina Blackstenius.
But in the second half they clawed back a late goal from Noemie Mouchon, although they conceded one more at the hands of Blackstenius.
“Playing against an excellent team, what I was pleased with was the response in the second half,” he told BBC Radio Leicester.
“The players that came on really put down a little marker, saying I’m ready and prepared to work for this football club.
“Out of the whole seven games, this is our biggest learning. Can we now utilise that in a positive manner in training and bring it out on a matchday?”
And centre half Julie Thibaud agreed.
“The plan (at half-time) was to forget what had happened and go again like it’s 0-0,” she said to the club’s official website.
“Of course, we wanted to get a result in the second half, and in that respect, it was 1-1.
“We did better, but it’s not good enough. At half-time, he (Passmoor) said we needed to track them better, be stronger in the battles and build that consistency.
“We wanted to do better in the second half, and we’ll build on the positives and reflect on the things we didn’t do as well.”
She added: “Against a good team, we know we need to be at the top level, so we need to get back to work as next week we have an important game.
“We will reflect after this game but then we will prepare to go again.”
Leicester’s next match is a trip to West Ham United on Sunday, 9th November.
The Foxes are currently third from bottom of the WSL, with five points. West Ham are rooted to the foot of the table, with no points on the board thus far, so the meeting will be a crunch clash.
The other side who are most likely to be caught in a relegation tangle are Liverpool, who are also yet to get off the mark this season.
