FA chief executive Mark Bullingham has addressed the contract situation of England manager Sarina Wiegman, after she guided the Lionesses to a second straight Women’s Euro trophy.
Wiegman and England overcame many adversities throughout the knockout phase to book their spot in the final against Spain.
Despite being underdogs, Wiegman guided the Lionesses to a penalty shootout win, to successfully defend the trophy they won for the first time in 2022.
Wiegman also won the competition with her native Netherlands back at Euro 2017.
Sarina Wiegman is currently under contract with England until the end of the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
She will be determined to lead the nation to glory at the tournament in Brazil, after losing to Spain in the final of the 2023 tournament.
However, after reaching three consecutive major finals, England fans and players will be hoping that the FA extends Wiegman’s contract so they can together defend their Women’s Euros trophy again in 2029.
There will be domestic and international teams who would love to have Wiegman as their manager in the future following her success with both the Netherlands and England.
FA chief executive Mark Bullingham has promised that there will be talks to extend the contract of England manager Sarina Wiegman.
He told BBC Sport: “She’s an incredible person, incredible coach and incredible leader.
“We’re very lucky to have her, proud to have her as part of the team and obviously she will be working with us for the World Cup.”
Asked on when contract discussions would take place, Bullingham admitted it was a “bit early for that”.
He added: “We are delighted she is with us for the World Cup and we will have that conversation at an appropriate time.
“She is an incredible manager and we’re delighted to be working with her, so that has to be up to her. We will have those conversations when they’re ready to go.”
England boss Sarina Wiegman and her Lionesses squad will celebrate their Euro 2025 triumph with a trophy parade in London today.
It will begin with an open-top bus parade which will go through The Mall at 12.10pm.
This will be followed by a ceremony outside Buckingham Palace, which will be hosted by Alex Scott and feature music.
The England team arrived back into the UK at Southend Airport on Monday.
After a reception at 10 Downing Street, the Lionesses partied in London until the early hours of Tuesday morning to celebrate their success.
