On Saturday, Barcelona will return to Camp Nou after more than two years away.

Back on home soil, the Spanish champions will begin this new chapter with a clash against Athletic Bilbao.

Hansi Flick will be eager for his side to mark their Camp Nou comeback with a victory, one that would keep the pressure firmly on league leaders Real Madrid.

As he looks to do so, Flick will be hoping to have his best players available for selection.

However, the latest development from Barca’s camp, after the November international break, is a cause for concern.

Rashford a no-show in Barca’s Thursday training

The German tactician may be without his most in-form forward, with Marcus Rashford missing team training on Thursday.

Uncertainty surrounding the Englishman’s absence sparked speculation, though Spanish outlet Sport‘s sources from within the La Liga club have “assured that it is nothing serious.”

While reporting on the Manchester United loanee’s absence from training at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper ahead of the Athletic Club fixture, AS journalist Javi Miguel offered a clear update on the situation.

He tweeted: “Rashford didn’t attend training today because he had permission from the club. Personal matters. He’s expected back this Friday.”

Rashford has proved his worth at Barca

Rashford’s return to training on Friday would be a significant boost for Barca.

He has been their most consistent forward this season, featuring regularly and delivering end product, with six goals and nine assists in 16 appearances.

While Raphinha is also back and in contention to feature against Athletic, Rashford’s blistering form means his absence would have been a major blow.

Back in training on Friday, the United academy graduate should be in contention to start on Saturday.

INEOS will be hoping he continues his resurgence and convinces Barca to seriously consider activating the €30 million (£26.4 million) option to buy agreed as part of his loan deal.
