Gunners travel to Molineux for rearranged Premier League fixture
Arsenal have the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table this week.
The Gunners, who drew with Brentford in their last league outing, currently have a four-point advantage over Manchester City as this season’s title race heats up.
Arsenal travel to the division’s bottom side in Wolves on Wednesday night hoping to go seven points clear at the summit ahead of a north London derby showdown with bitter rivals Tottenham.
This match, however, is the only Premier League fixture taking place this midweek.
The reason for this is due to Arsenal reaching the Carabao Cup final next month as they were scheduled to play Wolves on the weekend of the Wembley showpiece against Man City on March 22.
An Arsenal statement reads: “Following our success in reaching the Carabao Cup final, our trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers has been rearranged.
“The Premier League clash was due take place at Molineux on Saturday, March 21, at 3pm. However, because of our 4-2 aggregate victory over Chelsea, we will now play in the final against either Manchester City on Sunday, March 22, at Wembley Stadium.”
“That means our away fixture against Wolves will take place on Wednesday, February 18, at 8pm (UK time).”
Man City’s game with Crystal Palace has also been postponed as a result of their looming cup final trip, though a date for the rearranged fixture is yet to be confirmed.
With Palace in Conference League knockout phase play-off action this Thursday and next, their trip to the Etihad Stadium has to be rearranged for later in the season.
This will leave Pep Guardiola’s side playing catch-up in the title race but it remains to be seen if Arsenal can make the most of the opportunity that has presented itself this week.
