It was glorious to watch Crystal Palace beat Manchester City and win the FA Cup on Sunday, but it may come at a cost for Chelsea.

According to a report from GMS, the success that Palace have had, as a culmination of their excellent, growing project under manager Oliver Glasner, could mean they bump up their asking prices for a number of players who are in hot demand.

The likes of match-winner Eberechi Eze, England midfielder Adam Wharton and Jean-Phillipe Mateta will all be in hot demand, but the man Chelsea have long been linked with is their former academy defender Marc Guehi.

This report says that Palace feel in a “strong position” and confident they can hold on to any of these guys if they really want. Tyrick Mitchell is another rising star multiple teams have their eyes on.

Still just 24, Guehi has bags of Premier League experience for his age and is increasingly an England regular. With a deal for top target Dean Huijsen now looking impossible, Guehi is next on the list.

The main difference between Guehi and those other names is the fact that he’s only got a year left to run on his contract. That makes Palace far more inclined to sell, but also means there’s likely to be far more competition for his signature.

Newcastle, Liverpool, Tottenham, Bayern Munich and Juventus are all mentioned here – it’s hard to see us beating all of them in terms of wages and what we can offer in terms of a sporting project.

Still, perhaps this is where his Cobham connection will pay off. All other things being equal, a return home might just tempt him more than other alternatives.
