The Dutch side are expected to come in with an offer for Hamer soon.
The opportunity to play in the Champions League and for the Netherlands could sway Sheffield United's Gus Hamer towards a move to PSV Eindhoven, who are now focusing in on the Dutchman.
Interest in the Championship's Player of the Season from the previous term comes as no surprise to anyone, especially not the Blades. Failure to win promotion to the Premier League was always going to leave them vulnerable to this sort of situation, where a higher-ranking club looks to poach away their top stars that have high ambitions.
Vinicius Souza has already departed Bramall Lane to join German side Wolfsburg, a deal which netted United just under £13 million for the Brazilian midfielder.
Hamer, too, originally comes from the same South American country as his former teammate, but he now flies the flag of the Netherlands in football - the country that his adopted parents are from and brought him up in.
Getting to represent Holland is something that the 28-year-old wants to push for in his career, according to The Star. Playing in the Championship automatically limits his chances of doing so, but a move back to the Netherlands, to represent one of its biggest clubs, PSV, could help him achieve this dream.
Sacha Tavolieri has reported that the reigning Eredivisie champions are focusing in on Hamer and that a bid for the Blades player is expected soon. They are also currently negotiating with him and his representatives over personal terms.
Because they won the Dutch first division last season, PSV will be involved in Europe's premier continental-wide competition next season, a very appealing factor for anyone.
It has been reported by Netherlands-based outlet SoccerNews that Hamer's preference would be to return to the Premier League rather than leave England.
On the speculation surrounding Hamer's future with the Blades, head coach Ruben Selles said, via The Star: "There has been a lot of noise around him in the media but he is focused on us. You know you can never say never, because life is like that.
"But we want to keep him with us and make him happy and for him to keep working and performing as he has been doing, at least for the last two weeks for us and as everyone knows in the last seasons for the team."
The prospect of both international and Champions League football, provided that Hamer would be able to quickly fit into the inner workings of PSV, is an opportunity that most footballers would dream about. It's not a long career, and, at 28, there's only so much time ahead of Hamer in which he'll likely be able to operate at this level.
Premier League options aren't as plentiful now that Leeds United have cooled their interest, following their attempts to sign him last summer. PSV, therefore, may provide Hamer with the quickest route back to top flight football, and maybe the national team.
