Liverpool coach backs his star ahead of West Ham clash

Why is Mohamed Salah being questioned? Arne Slot gives his answer
Liverpool coach Arne Slot defended Mohamed Salah after questions about his goal return ahead of the West Ham match.
Arne Slot head coach of Liverpool has spoken in support of Mohamed Salah following growing discussion about the forward’s recent lack of goals.
Liverpool are set to host West Ham United at Anfield on Saturday in round 28 of Premier League, with attention again focused on Salah’s numbers in front of goal.
Speaking to Liverpool Echo, Slot explained that Salah’s situation is the result of the very high standards he has set over the years.
According to the Dutch coach, people are surprised when Salah does not score because they are used to him delivering consistently.
Slot pointed out that Salah has still been involved in key moments this season. He recalled that only a few matches ago, the Egyptian star both scored and assisted against Brighton & Hove Albion, a team Slot described as strong in Premier League.
The Liverpool coach added that focusing only on goal statistics does not always reflect player’s full contribution on the pitch.
Slot also stressed that Salah is not the only attacker experiencing drop in goals. He said such phases happen in football and should be viewed in the context of the whole team’s performance.
He mentioned that players like Hugo Ekitike & Cody Gakpo have also gone through similar periods. According to Slot, Liverpool used to Salah scoring regularly but temporary dips are part of the game.
So far this Premier League season, Salah scored four goals and provided six assist in 19 league match. Despite the questions around his scoring, he remains one of Liverpool’s most influential players in attack.
