Lazio’s transfer market has finally been unlocked as the club nears the definitive sale of Valentin ‘Taty’ Castellanos to West Ham. According to Calciomercato, the Argentine striker is set to join the Premier League side for a total fee of €30 million, a figure that represents a vital financial injection for President Claudio Lotito.
The significance of this deal goes beyond just the numbers. After suffering a complete transfer ban during the summer window—which prevented the club from making any new signings or sales—the capital side was left in a state of paralysis. This massive windfall from London effectively acts as the “key” to open the January market, allowing Maurizio Sarri to finally reshape a squad that has been static for months.
While a percentage of the €30 million must be shared with New York City FC, the remaining funds are expected to finance a total revolution. Lazio are already working on immediate reinforcements: Lorenzo Insigne is reportedly one step away from joining on a free transfer, while Andrea Pinamonti has emerged as the primary target to replace Castellanos. The club is also exploring ways to bring forward the arrival of Villarreal’s Alfonso Pedraza, provided Nuno Tavares completes his expected move to Al-Ittihad.
The sale to West Ham will also make sure that Lazio do not have to sell a key player in Matteo Guendouzi. Sunderland have been linked with him but now, he could stay in Rome.
For a club that was legally barred from operating just a few months ago, the sale of Castellanos marks the end of their financial winter and the beginning of a frantic recruitment drive.
