Real Madrid have confirmed Kylian Mbappe sustained a thigh injury during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Real Betis.
Mbappe limped out of the game late in the second half after requesting to be substituted.
The severity of the 27-year-old’s injury is unknown, but there are significant doubts over his availability for the El Clasico on May 10.
Madrid will travel to Espanyol without Mbappe this weekend. The Frenchman will push hard to be fit for the game against Barcelona at Camp Nou next month.
AS claims Madrid are not ruling out a return for the forward against their fierce league rivals. There is a good chance he will be available, but nothing can be said with certainty.
Despite Madrid’s struggles, Mbappe has had an impressive season. He has scored 41 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions.
He is on course to win the La Liga Golden Boot in back-to-back seasons after beating Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski to the coveted prize last term.
Mbappe scored in both legs of their Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich, but they lost the tie on 6-4 aggregate.
Madrid’s hopes of winning the La Liga title are also slim. They have won just one of their last four league fixtures, allowing Barcelona to create an 11-point gap at the top.
Los Blancos are expected to sack manager Alvaro Arbeloa at the end of the season.
