The second week of Women’s Super League action saw 22 goals scored across the six games, and here SheKicks gives our team of the week for Matchday 2.
Manchester City picked up their first points of the season after coming from behind to beat Brighton 2-1 in a hard-fought win.
Arsenal also came from behind against West Ham, but enjoyed a much more emphatic 5-1 victory on Friday night.
The Gunners hold a 100 per cent record, as do Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham who all picked up victories on Sunday.
Perhaps the biggest surprise came at Leicester, where the Foxes beat Liverpool despite being reduced to 10 players for much of the second-half.
Below is SheKicks’ Team of the Week for Matchday 1 in the Women’s Super League.
Hannah Hampton (Chelsea)
England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton is the first player in our Women’s Super League Team of the Week for Matchday 2.
Hampton kept Chelsea in the game at times, making several top-quality saves when the score was tied at 1-1.
Ebony Salmon and Kirsty Hanson had good opportunities to put Villa ahead, but Hampton stood strong, leading to Chelsea’s 3-1 victory.
It was the type of performance which showed why Hampton has been nominated for the Ballon d’Or award. Hampton is also nominated for the Yachine Trophy, which will be awarded on the same night.

Jayde Riviere (Manchester United)
Canadian right-back Jayde Riviere scored her first senior goal at club level during Manchester United’s 5-1 victory over the London City Lionesses.
There will be questions over whether the 24-year-old meant to score or cross after finding the back of the net from an impossible angle.
She was a constant threat down the right-flank for the Red Devils.
Maya Le Tissier (Manchester United)
Maya Le Tissier is one of three players who keep their place in our Women’s Super League Team of the Week, after also making the XI for Matchday 1.
It was an exceptional all-around performance, which she set the tempo for after scoring from the penalty spot after just three minutes.
She also provided the assist for Jayde Riviere’s goal and committed well to her defensive responsibilities.
Marc Skinner compared Le Tissier to Lucy Bronze after making her 100th club appearance.
Maya Le Tissier is joined in defence by Alex Greenwood, who produced a top defensive performance in Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Brighton.
Greenwood made seven recoveries, five clearances, and one last-player tackle to help City take the three points.
She just makes this selection ahead of Leicester City centre-back Sari Kees, who also produced a top performance in their 1-0 victory over Liverpool.
Spanish international Leila Ouahabi grew into the game during Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Brighton.
She provided an excellent cross for the equaliser, which was scored by Khadija Shaw.
Ouahabi was the most accurate passer (96 per cent) on the pitch, and also made two tackles and three clearances.
Spain international Mariona Caldentey has had an excellent start to the season, keeping her place in the Team of the Week.
Caldentey provided an assist for Caitlin Foord, who scored Arsenal’s third in a 5-1 victory over West Ham.
She was dangerous in attacking positions with seven passes into the final third, while she also performed her defensive responsibilities, with nine recoveries.

Olga Ahtinen (Tottenham)
Olga Ahtinen punished some poor Everton defending to score the opener in a 2-0 victory at Goodison Park.
It was the first home game for Everton in their first full campaign at the iconic ground.
However, Spurs spoiled the party with Ahtinen playing a big part in Tottenham securing their second straight win to begin the season.
Yui Hasegawa (Manchester City)
Yui Hasegawa was a livewire in midfield for Manchester City throughout their victory over Brighton.
Her relentless energy was rewarded with the winning goal after some excellent work from substitute Aoba Fujino.
Hasegawa recently signed a new two-year contract extension with City, with her new deal expiring in 2029.
Cathinka Tandberg scored the goal of the weekend with an outrageous effort from distance against Everton.
She hit an audacious 40-yard lob, which caught out the back-peddling Courtney Brosnan.
It was an excellent day for Tottenham, though manager Martin Ho is keen for his side to prioritise performances over results.
Alessia Russo (Arsenal)
Arsenal striker Alessia Russo was arguably the standout performer of the entire weekend, with two goals and an assist in the victory over West Ham.
Her first effort was powered into the back of the net before she then successfully scored from the penalty spot.
She also provided one of the best assists so far this season with a backheel into the path of Stina Blackstenius.
Russo is nominated for the Ballon d’Or award, and will be one of the favourites for the prize.
Melvine Malard scored another brace for Manchester United against the London City Lionesses, after also doing so against Leicester City last weekend.
Remarkably, she has already matched her WSL goal tally from the entirety of the 2024-25 season.
She will be hoping to add to her four goals so far this campaign when United face Arsenal this weekend.
