With the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico from 11 June to 19 July, many in Europe, Asia and Africa face night-time kick-offs.
According to L'Équipe, the comparison uses each country’s local kick-off times for the group stage.
South and Central America fare best. Uruguay play two at 19:00 and one at 21:00, Panama two at 18:00 and one at 16:00, Haiti at 21:00, 20:30 and 18:00, and Colombia twice at 21:00 then 18:30.
The hosts span multiple time zones, so there is no single picture for the United States, Canada or Mexico. Brazil’s group games will still fall in the evening, roughly between 19:00 and 21:30.
North Africa and West Asia are hardest hit. Algeria face 02:00, 04:00 and 03:00 starts, Tunisia 03:00, 05:00 and midnight, Jordan and Türkiye 07:00, 06:00 and 05:00, and Egypt 22:00 followed by 04:00 and 06:00. Iran’s involvement remains uncertain due to war with Israel and the United States, with potential kick-offs at 04:30, 22:30 and 06:30.
Several European nations are in reasonable shape. Had Italy qualified they would have had three 21:00 kick-offs, a schedule Bosnia and Herzegovina will now enjoy, with Switzerland the same. Germany play at 19:00 then twice at 22:00, England twice at 21:00 and once at 22:00.
Iberian timings are mostly friendly. Portugal have two at 18:00 then 00:30 against Colombia, while Spain have two at 18:00 then 02:00 against Uruguay. France face Iraq at 23:00, with Senegal and Norway both at 21:00.
