Tottenham have announced that Jamaican international Drew Spence has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with the club.
The 33-year-old midfielder joined the Lilywhites in June 2022 from London rivals Chelsea after a trophy-laden spell in West London. Her time in blue saw her win 11 major titles, including four Women’s FA Cups and five Women’s Super League titles.
Spence’s debut season in North London was a huge success. The experienced midfielder scored on her competitive debut in a 2-1 win against Leicester City, before going on to make a further 27 appearances.
Since signing for Spurs, Spence has made 75 appearances across all competitions and has ten goals to her name.
These 75 appearances almost helped Spence to a 12th major trophy in her career, as Tottenham reached their a historic FA Cup final in the 2023/24 season. The midfielder started at Wembley Stadium, however Marc Skinner’s Manchester United proved too tough to beat.
On her new deal, Spence said: “I’m really happy. I feel so comfortable here at the Club and I can see where it’s progressing to. I can see that progression and it shows in our results so far.
“It feels like a family. The feeling amongst the girls is great and we’re learning every day. It’s been a massive six months for us, and we have to keep taking these steps.”
Following the arrival of new head coach Martin Ho this summer, Spence has been a firm starter for the club. Having started nine out of a possible ten league games this season, the Jamaican international has helped Tottenham reach new highs as they currently sit one point shy off last season’s tally.
Head Coach Martin Ho, said: “Drew has fully earned this new contract. What sets Drew apart is not just how she plays, but how she behaves. She leads by example every single day. Her work ethic is unwavering, her competitiveness is infectious, and her willingness to take responsibility has become a benchmark for others. Her personality carries weight in this group, she brings experience, honesty and a calm authority that strengthens the entire environment.
“She adds huge value to our young players who look to her, and equally to our senior players who respect her presence and consistency. Drew is a connector in the dressing room, a driver on the pitch, and a person who embodies what we want this club to represent.”
On the international stage, Spence represented the Reggae Girlz in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, helping them to reach the knockout stages for the first time. She has 19 caps in which she has scored two goals.
