Xabi Alonso explains Kylian Mbappé playing 90 minutes for Real Madrid vs Talavera | OneFootball

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso provided a simple response, when questioned on the considerable minutes afforded to star man Kylian Mbappé in the club’s latest outing.

Frontman Mbappé is for his part of course fresh off another match-winning performance on Wednesday.

After Real Madrid made the trip to minnows Talavera to kickstart their Copa del Rey campaign, the 26-year-old was somewhat surprisingly in from the off.

Mbappé, in turn, took full advantage of the opportunity to further add to his season tally in the final third.

En route to a 3-2 Blancos triumph, the former Paris Saint-Germain standout netted a brace.

And yet, amid such a hectic stretch of the campaign, and with injuries piling up in his squad, questions were asked of Xabi Alonso’s call to leave Mbappé on the pitch through the full-time whistle.

When the subject of as much was put directly to Real Madrid’s headmaster post-match, though, Alonso was blunt in his reply:

“Because he scores goals.”
