Xabi Alonso responds to Real Madrid’s surprise training ground doping test | OneFootball

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has spoken out on the visit paid to the club’s training ground by La Liga on Monday.

Ongoings at Valdebebas have of course positioned themselves front and centre in the Spanish media headlines across the day to date.

This comes after La Liga sent a delegation to Real Madrid’s training base.

As much came with a view to a surprise doping test, following Los Blancos’ weekend victory over Real Sociedad.

The timing of the visit drew widespread criticism across Spain, with Xabi Alonso’s squad having been forced to delay their training session by an hour, just a day out from the club’s Champions League season opener against Olympique Marseille.

Speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference, the situation, in turn, was inevitably put to the aforementioned Xabi Alonso.

Real Madrid’s headmaster opted to remain diplomatic in his response, though, explaining:

“Doping control for six players this morning? Things that happen, that’s it. We trained later. We don’t control it.”
