Manchester United’s seasons continues to go from bad to worse.
A crushing 1-3 defeat to Brentford has heaped immense pressure on head coach Ruben Amorim.
There have been many noises coming out of Old Trafford that the club wants to give the Portuguese coach as much time as they can to turn things around but that patience seems to be wearing thin.
Therefore, rumours of other managers being targeted have started to crop up with Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner being mentioned.
There have also been links to Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola and also Brighton and Hove Albion’s Fabian Hürzeler.
United have been long linked to former FC Barcelona head coach Xavi however, and some recent reports suggest the Red Devils may go in for the Catalan should Amorim be sacked.
The Sun newspaper have contradicted these claims though and state that Xavi is not a serious option to take over at United for the time being.
The report states that “United initially placed an emphasis on Premier League-proven signings in the summer with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo and could apply that to their next managerial search.”
The articles goes on to state that this could also severely affect former England manager Gareth Southgate’s chances of landing the job as he has not managed in the Premier League since 2009.
What’s more, “reports suggest Xavi would be extremely keen on the Old Trafford gig. However, there is not believed to have been any interest from the Red Devils as yet.”
The Barcelona legend certainly has big club experience, having won La Liga with the Catalans during incredibly testing financial limitations.
He managed the club for 142 matches, finishing with a win percentage of 62.68%.
