Manchester United allowed Everton to equalise twice as they played out an entertaining 2-2 draw away at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.

The visitors’ weak mentality of trying to hold on after scoring led to the disappointing result in the end. It was a far cry from the impetus shown by the Red Devils last week against Ipswich Town.

Michael Carrick also deserves blame for his shoddy substitutions, as he opted to make defensive alterations at every interval, including changing in-form Marcus Rashford and both full-backs.

The head coach’s call to persist with Matheus Cunha till the 70th minute was puzzling to say the least, considering the Brazilian‘s abysmal performance on the day.

Even worse, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers ace did not attempt a single cross, nor did he manage a single key pass.

During his 70-minute stay on the pitch, the Brazil international ended with a 79% passing accuracy, while losing the ball 11 times.

Normally so energetic off the ball, Matheus Cunha struggled on that front as well.

The United No.10 should have scored once in each half, but squandered the efforts of Marcus Rashford on both occasions.

The false nine position is certainly not suiting him, and he is better out wide or as a support striker.

It remains to be seen if Carrick switches things up for the club’s first Champions League game of the season in midweek.
