Real Madrid have made it four wins from four at the start of the new La Liga season with a battling victory over Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena, in a match where they played the majority of proceedings with one less player.

Xabi Alonso’s side made a fast start in Donostia-San Sebastian when Kylian Mbappe set up Arda Guler to score, but the Frenchman was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up. However, he was not denied for long as he was released in behind following a terrible pass from La Real midfielder Mikel Goti, and with only Alex Remiro to beat, he made no mistake – as expected.

But just beyond the half hour mark, Real Madrid were reduced to 10 men, and it was a second dismissal in his short Los Blancos career for Dean Huijsen. The Spain international, signed from Bournemouth in the summer, was adjudged to have been the last man when he fouled Mikel Oyarzabal.

But despite the man disadvantage, Real Madrid made it 2-0. Mbappe did wonderfully well on the left, and his cutback was turned down by Guler, who was not to be denied his goal. Los Blancos had remained dominant despite playing with one man less, so it was a deserved strike.

However, La Real have got a goal back 12 minutes into the second half courtesy of Oyarzabal from the penalty spot. Dani Carvajal stopped a cross into the box with his arm, which allowed the Spain international to make no mistake from 12 yards.

From that moment on, Real Madrid were under the pump as La Real pushed hard for an equaliser, but in the end, there were no further goals. As a result, it means that Alonso’s side have continued their 100% record, which means that they are in with an excellent chance of remaining as La Liga leaders for another matchday.
