FLW's Blackburn fan pundit has reacted to the news of Henrik Pedersen's links to the vacant managerial role at Ewood Park

Blackburn Rovers remain on the hunt for a new manager after Michael O'Neill turned down the permanent role in the Ewood Park dugout, and have sounded out a potential target.

Ahead of a huge summer window, Blackburn continue their search for a permanent managerial appointment.

Michael O'Neill was offered a three-year deal to stay in Lancashire beyond his current terms, having spent 15 games in charge, winning five, drawing five, and losing five, but ultimately, and crucially, guiding them away from relegation.

However, the Northern Irishman turned down the opportunity to remain in the Championship in favour of staying in charge of his country's men's national football team, citing his desire to guide the nation into the next European Championships.

It's a huge blow for Blackburn, who clearly would have loved for him to stick around, but now must once again look elsewhere to find the right fit, as the club has identified another potential candidate who just spent the entire season in the Championship.

Blackburn Rovers have identified Sheffield Wednesday's Henrik Pedersen as a potential candidate for the managerial role at Ewood Park

According to The Wednesday Word, Sheffield Wednesday's Henrik Pedersen is reportedly a target for Blackburn, with the Lancashire outfit said to be 'admirers' of the Dane.

Pedersen, 48, managed just two wins all season as Wednesday finished on zero points, clawing their way back from negative points after they were hit by a couple of point deductions for undergoing administration.

Despite the Owls ultimately being relegated with a whimper, the circumstances in which they found themselves were far from ideal, and few managers in the world would've likely fared much better than the Dane.

Football League World's Blackburn fan pundit, Simon, has shared his thoughts on the club's links to Pedersen, and whether he would be a person he'd like to see take charge at Ewood Park.

Simon said: "You know what, to be honest with you, Henrik Pederson, I probably would.

"He's someone who knows how to work with a squad that's quite small. Obviously, everything was stacked against him at Sheffield Wednesday, but he still made him into a pretty decent side, at times hard to beat.

"However, when you come to Blackburn, going from one bad situation to another, probably not. Sheffield Wednesday has obviously just been bought out.

"Although they're now not starting on a negative points difference, so I can't see him wanting to leave Sheffield Wednesday, but if he did, and he wanted a challenge in the Championship again, 100%, I absolutely would take him."

Blackburn Rovers must consider all of their managerial options amid links to Sheffield Wednesday's Henrik Pedersen

Before deciding on their next permanent appointment, Blackburn must carefully consider all of their options first.

O'Neill would have been the most ideal candidate, having already spent time at the club, forging a positive relationship with the club, the fans and the players, and completing the job he was initially brought in to do.

The Northern Irishman would have taken little adapting to get used to life with the former Premier League champions, and will have had a much better idea of what the squad requires than any other possible manager coming in, including Pedersen.

The Dane remains somewhat of an unknown quantity at Championship level, given the difficult circumstances in which he took charge at Wednesday, and how he would fare at a club that would be much more competitive than his former employers remains to be seen.

Blackburn barely survived this time around, and failure to appoint the right person and place the correct building blocks for a positive future could see them fall into danger once again if they are not careful.

Pedersen remains a candidate, but at this stage, that's all he is, as Blackburn continues their quest for a new boss.
