Former Aston Villa star Gabriel Agbonlahor has made a bold prediction about Manchester United assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Ruud van Nistelrooy made an emotional return to Old Trafford this summer to replace Mitchell Van der Gaag as Erik ten Hag’s assistant.

Rene Hake also made the move to Manchester this summer in Ineos’ approach to strengthen Ten Hag’s backroom staff.

Van Nistelrooy’s Manchester United return was a surprising move after the former Real Madrid star had other offers to be a manager elsewhere.

The former Red Devil has previously been manager of PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie and is considered an exciting manager after his stint in Holland.

TalkSport pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor predicts Ruud Van Nistelrooy to become Red Devils boss

After a disappointing start to the new season, pressure on Ten Hag’s job is already increasing within the media.

There is always pressure in the Old Trafford hot seat when results are not going in the right direction.

The former Ajax boss will be hoping he can quickly improve the Red Devils form after the international break to squash the speculation on his future.

However, former Premier League star Gabriel Agbonlahor claims Ineos have already lined up Ten Hag’s potential successor if they have to relieve the 54-year-old coach of his duties at Old Trafford.

Speaking to TalkSport, Agbonlahor said: “I don’t think he’s got it in him, to be honest, I just look at him and I just see a manager who hasn’t got that presence on the touchline.

“The players didn’t look like they were like up for the game either. So I think he’s got a lot of problems, Ten Hag.

“I reckon that ownership are probably thinking, ‘Thank God we’ve got Van Nistelrooy there’, because I think Van Nistelrooy will come through and take the job – 100 per cent.

“If you’re part of the Manchester United ownership you’re probably saying, ‘You know what, we tried to search for every manager possible to take his job in the summer but we couldn’t. We’ve kept him on but if this continues are we going to be seventh or eighth again?”
