Bingen Zupiria said the State Commission against Violence in Sport has proposed a 10,000 euro sanction over the flare incident during Euskadi v Palestine at San Mamés in November, which left a spectator injured.
“There were problems with flares and with access at San Mamés,” he said, speaking to Radio Euskadi.
The Champions League tie between Athletic and Sporting de Portugal tonight has been declared high risk. “Ertzaintza chiefs speak with real concern about flares, to the point of saying that at some stage we could have a scare or a misfortune,” he said.
The regional police are on alert for 1,500 Portuguese supporters expected in Bilbao without tickets.
Zupiria added that Antiviolence has moved to sanction the person who dropped or threw a flare, injuring and burning a fan in the stands. “I do not believe there will be any ban today on any organised display carried out in an orderly way.”
